How-do-you-do guys,
So I accept Time Warner Cable Modem (with built in wireless). The wireless isn't really stable and I'chiliad not even that far abroad from the modem (maybe similar 15 ft max). That said, I too have a wireless router just laying around. Is at that place a possibility that I tin can connect my wireless router to the Time Warner Cable Modem then that I can really get the speeds I paid for?

http://www.ehow.com/how_6502105_connect-time-warner-cable-modem.html <----- I tried reading those steps simply all the same find it a bit confusing (Pace 4-8)? Tin someone please explain it in more simple terms? I'm kind of a noob when it comes to networking.

Thanks.

Yous demand to login to the TWC modem via the web interface. I believe it'due south 192.168.0.1. From there, yous tin can disable wireless, and change the router into bridge/modem mode or whatever they call it. It disables the unabridged routing portion of the device and turns it into a simple cable modem. From there, plug your router into any of the ports on the cable modem (I use #ane), and fix your wireless router to DHCP (probably already is).

I'm bold the TWC device is a Motorola Surfboard something or other. I have the verbal same modem, and did this the solar day I got it.

Also, phone call TWC if you have trouble. They volition disable it for you lot remotely, or give you lot instructions on how to.

You need to login to the TWC modem via the spider web interface. I believe it's 192.168.0.ane. From there, you lot can disable wireless, and alter the router into span/modem mode or whatever they call it. It disables the entire routing portion of the device and turns information technology into a elementary cable modem. From there, plug your router into any of the ports on the cable modem (I employ #1), and set your wireless router to DHCP (probably already is).

I'm assuming the TWC device is a Motorola Surfboard something or other. I have the exact same modem, and did this the day I got it.

Also, call TWC if y'all have trouble. They will disable it for you remotely, or give you instructions on how to.

Thanks a lot for the quick respond! I volition do this when I get home.

I have a quick question though. Practice you discover a dramatic divergence in wireless speed and the amount of confined u have when connecting it to your wireless router and the TW Cablevision Modem?
Another this is, when I bridge the wireless connection to my wireless router, information technology will no longer rely on the shitty built in wireless of the TW Cable Modem right? All the wireless transmission will be fabricated through the router and not the TW Cable Modem? Volition I accept to change the name of the network, or will information technology still recognize what my network name was previously?

Thanks

Thanks

It will apply whatever settings yous accept on your third party wireless router. It will disable all features of the TWC modem turning it into a impaired modem similar you lot are used to. If all your devices are setup to connect to your third party wireless router, yous won't need to reconnect them, they volition pick right up.

Call Time Warner billing department.

Why? If that cable modem is being rented from TWC...you're beingness billed every month for having that wifi flake inside the modem enabled.

But I'm however using their internet though. Do you mean the Wi-Fi chip cost extra money? If so, thanks. I should've merely asked for a cable/modem that had non wireless built in. The wireless congenital in is seriously crap. I tin't even play BF3 without existence timed out for like every 1 minute.

Thanks

I dont know about your area, just TWC disable power to log into routers. Most probable y'all have to call customer support (tier iii) and accept them put it in bridge way. Then you tin hook your router to information technology and have it take over routering.
Current Condition:
Isp: TWC
Modem: Arris TG852G (bridge way)
Router: Wndr3700v1

You're actually being billed for the modem itself, not the features. Unless yous buy your own, you pay $iii-$5 a month for the rental.

I e'er wondered nearly that. When you look at their higher priced tiers, they all say "includes costless wireless service". No shit, does it include gratuitous Ethernet connections also?

I dont know about your expanse, but TWC disable ability to log into routers. Near likely y'all accept to call client support (tier three) and take them put it in span mode. And so you tin hook your router to it and have it take over routering.

This.

To the OP;

Only have the modem to your local TW store location and bandy information technology out for a regular modem and be sure they change your bill because yous're paying extra to take wifi.

As well, a side notation. I had the Motorola Gateway with TW and it never caused issues. Perhaps in that location is an upshot with your gateway that should be addressed?

Either style, skillful luck!

I really have no idea what the problem is. But I had them come out before and replaced the modem. Sadly, the modem they replaced was the verbal aforementioned model I had before. Yet, I'm just going to practise the bridging selection (and promise to deduct some fees that were charged for the built in wireless), or just replace the modem with a non-congenital in wireless as you guys suggested.

I likewise have the new Motorola model modem. I'm pretty sure TW releases the same model modem to everyone considering when I asked if they had a stronger wi-fi model they said they only take that one model.

Thanks for all the input!!

Update: And then after bridging my router, which took like two hours, I still concluded upward with the aforementioned upshot. Does this mean I take to get like more download speed?

I have the 20mb/2mb package. Only earlier I did a speedtest wired and no bridging, I got like 6mb/.95mb. I resetted the modem and also called them (they always do the same thing), and both wirelessly and wired I become the the speed I paid for. Withal, I know maybe tomorrow or later I will be getting really crappy speeds. Do yous know why this happens? It's really annoying.

Thanks

But I had them come 2 times already. Every fourth dimension they come the net is fine. Information technology is when they leave that the problem begins. That is why this is so frustrating. So I call and say I need a plant job, and they will know what I am talking virtually correct? Will it be for costless?

Thank you

Explicate the problem and allow another tech have a look. And then inquire him could information technology be outside equipment causing the problem and let him call in a plant chore to have it check. I don't know well-nigh at present, but they didn't accuse me when I had it done

What does this fifty-fifty mean?

I've worked for three major cable companies and have never herd of a "plant chore"

What you're trying to tell the OP is that if the tech comes out be sure he checks inside and outside. Ingress/egress, and brand sure everything out at the tap looks proficient......

Most techs will practise the right thing and make sure everything is correct.

This is why yous need to start doing your own troubleshooting.

Endeavour another modem, effort another router. Get rid of the gateway......
Write downwardly what times it occurs
Look around y'all....is a microwave turning on.....is your land line phone ringing?
Could be a featherbrained thing causing information technology.

Went to an apartment circuitous and at 6:30Am every morning time mon-fri the whole apartment complex's cablevision would crash.....come to find out it was someones warning clock that would sync to the atomic 60 minutes and it used ethernet to sync....then when his alert would go off to wake him upwards.....crashed the whole node.

Maybe its an inside term used by TWC in ny, merely either mode thats what they call it. And thats what I had to use to confirm the appointment to check my outside equipment.
